"Studying about a country in school, and then actually being there is a surreal experience.  I was shopping in Sephora and as I was checking out the cashier asked for my rewards card. I explained that I didn't have it with me, so she proceeded to look it up on her computer.  I then told her that I was actually from the United States. She said that she had no idea and complimented me on how good was my French. It made me feel so good that she didn't automatically know I was American".
